Visiting The Houses Of Parliament

The public entrance to the Houses of Parliament is through St. Stephen's entrance in Old Palace Yard opposite the back of Westminster Abbey. The nearest tube is Westminster.

Attending a debate

If you wish to sit in on a debate in either the House of Commons or House of Lords, tickets should be obtained well in advance, normally 7 to 8 weeks. I can obtain tickets for constituents or you can queue outside St. Stephen's Entrance. The busiest day is Wednesday when the Prime Minister has to answer questions in the House of Commons. Following recent security scares, tickets for members of the public are scarce.

Tours

I can also arrange permits for guided parties to tour the Palace of Westminster. Please contact my office if you would like a tour arranged.

Visitors are taken by trained guides along what is known as the Line of Route which takes visitors through the House of Lords and House of Commons (HOC) chambers. There is no charge. The availability of tours is as follows:

Monday - 0900-1200 - Whole route

Tuesday - 0900 - 1200 - Whole route

Wednesday - 0900-0920 Whole route
0925-1200 Lords end only

Thursday - NO TOURS

Friday - 1530-1700 - Whole route

During recess, as a rule, tours are available from 0930-1700 along the whole route.

Schools

The Parliamentary Education Unit also arrange a series of visits for school groups which include a discussion about the history of Parliament and the political process. This can be arranged through my office.
